An employee from meroom drove us in a van to the Phuket Pier. It was about a 10 minute drive, and I noticed he had a mobile phone propped up playing music videos.

I should have asked if it was YouTube 😉

He unloaded our luggage, and as he handed me my bag: “You. You Thai?”

I thanked him, told him I was Filipino, and then we headed to the boat.  Read More

Thai Thanksgiving: 6 hours in Phuket

We arrived in Phuket around 2am and took a taxi to our hotel, MeRoom. When booking the hotel, we noted in our reservation that we would be checking in around 2am.

We got to the front desk and the first thing we noticed was the explicit signs forbidding durian. Durian is a fruit that looks kind of like a jackfruit – but smells disgusting, like a gas leak.

Thai Thanksgiving: Introduction

A trip report for my Thanksgiving week in Thailand.

Thailand is a very popular tourist destination, and it’s been on my list for years. My friends and I had all expressed interest in going to Thailand at some point, but it can be hard to get people to commit. (I’ve heard committing is even harder for Californians – apparently we’re notoriously flaky 😉 ).

At the beginning of the year, I proposed going over Thanksgiving to my boyfriend and a couple friends. Max and my friends Barbara and Aimee were down for it, so I started monitoring @theflightdeal for airfare.

In February, we found some cheap airfare but it still took us a few days to commit. We had limited PTO so we only wanted to spend a week, but we wanted to visit islands and Bangkok, too.
